Day10: South Miami to Pompano Beach

... as reported by "DancesWithSandyBottom"

On Monday from 6:15 AM to 8:00 PM SandyBottom followed the intracoastal waterway for 44 miles through the concrete canyons (or condo canyons). The good tailwinds were partially blocked by the tall buildings. Early in the day tidal flows slowed her down but later in the day the tides greatly boosted her speed. She reported that her navigation skills are improving.

She paddled solo all day. That was sweetened by having a great set of songs on her MP3 player ---thanks to our daughter who selected them and loaded them on the player.

SandyBottom stopped to camp for the night near Alsdorf Park at the 17th Street Bridge in the Pompano Beach area at 8:00 PM. At that moment ThereAndBackAgain was about 8 miles ahead (further north) and DrKayak was on the bridge less than 400 yards away visiting with WaterTribe friends. However, due to the darkness SandyBottom and DrKayak see each other arrive in the area. Apparently DrKayak (who is paddling/sailing a class3 boat with a relatively large Balough sail rig) had the time and energy to take a social break. After that he sail/paddled a few more miles before camping. SandyBottom was mostly exhausted from paddling her class1 boat for 13.5 hours. Perhaps she should try class3 next year.
