... as reported by "DancesWithSandyBottom"
CP3 at Flamingo, FL, has accumulated 7 kayakers who are now more or less rested and ready to cross the 37 mile stretch of unfavorable wind and water in Florida Bay to reach Key Largo.
SandyBottom called home today at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM to report. After considering the timing of high and low tides, their collective plan is to launch at about 4:00 PM and paddle the distance together. She also reported that she is feeling very good, is rested and has her land-legs again. In response to questions about wear-and-tear, she said she is in good condition, her hands are okay, no worries about blisters and such, etc. That's good because the 37-miles to Key Largo will be difficult because of the strong southeast wind (and waves) they will face.
The crossing is expected to take 24 hours of non-stop paddling. Expected time of arrival in Key Largo would then be at about 4:00 PM on Saturday --just in time for the WaterTribe dinner and party Saturday evening.
